International Law The resources listed on this page cover links to important sites for research in international law as a general subject, with some links specifically to sites emphasizing each of its two branches, public and private international law. These sites would include information about treaties, intergovernmental organizations, and some secondary interpretive material as well. Foreign and comparative law, however, are not the focus of these sites. Separate resource lists exist for international trade, human rights, arbitration, and intellectual property, all of which contain international as well as Canadian sources for those specific topics. Research Guide to International Law on the Internet This guide has been prepared by Massimo Magagni, Professor of International Law at the Political Science Faculty, Bologna University. The contents are arranged by topic and organization, with extensive list of links to relevant sites and resources. (Note: last updated 1997). Legal Research on International Law Issues Using the Internet Links to selected major sites for foreign and international legal research, international organizations, government agencies, library catalogs, publishers, law journals, listservs, newsgroups and research guides. The primary emphasis is on resources related to international trade law and human rights. International Documents: International Governmental Organizations Maintained by the Government Publications Department of Northwestern University Library, this list of links to the official sites of intergovernmental organizations is intended to be comprehensive and includes many regional organizations not often linked on other sites. Foreign and International Law Web (Washburn University School of Law Library) Provides links to primary foreign and international legal resources, research aids, and sites useful in conducting research in international law. The information is arranged by world regions and selected topics. United Nations Scholars' Workstation (one of the Legal Research Workstations at Yale Law Library) Includes texts, finding aids, data sets, maps, and pointers to print and electronic resources related to international law. ASIL Guide to Electronic Resources for International Law Contains sections on the United Nations, human rights, lists, newsgroups, networks, treaties, international environmental law, and international criminal law. The American Society of International Law One of the best sites on international law and relations. The ASIL is a world-wide organization, and publisher of 'International Legal Materials' and 'American Journal of International Law'. Includes activity and product information, bibliographies, articles, and links to other useful sites. Hieros Gamos : International Law Provides links to principal international documents, treaties, and governmental agencies. The central UN page links to a documentation guide, a treaty database to which the library subscribes, the work of the International Law Commission, Womenwatch, and the entire human rights databases for charter and treaty based bodies, including jurisprudence under optional protocols. International Court of Justice Maintained by the Cornell Law Library with the documentary assistance of the Court, this site provides both primary and secondary information on the court, and lists all decisions rendered by the Court. Also provides an index of all past and present judges, a research guide for locating resources on the court, selected recent judgements, and links to related sites. Legal Resources in Europe (University of Saarland, Germany) A comprehensive site for links to the European Union and European law. Contains links to Council of Europe institutions, European Union sites, European Union member states, other European Countries and Legal History, and Roman Law. This site of the European Union has four main entry points: News, Institutions, Abc, and Policies. Provides access to the servers of Parliament, the Council, the Commission, the Court of Justice, the Court of Auditors, and other bodies of the European Union (EU). Guide To European Legal Databases Prepared by Mirela Roznovschi, Reference Librarian for International and Foreign Law at the New York University School of Law Library, this guide provides comprehensive resources and links to numerous European databases, including constitutions, copyright, and environment. The main jurisdictions covered are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Transnational and international organizations such as the Council of Europe and the European Union are also included. Contains search tips, directories, information on indices, and search engines as well. Virtual Institute: Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law Heidelberg The Virtual Institute at Max Planck brings together international, foreign, and comparative law links and materials in English and German Fletcher Multilaterals Project The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University has set up a database of full text for several multilateral treaties. They are grouped by subject or browsed in chronologial order. Treaty secretariats and historical documents are being added to the site. International Law : Private International LawPrivate International Law Database (U.S. Dept. of State, Office of the Legal Adviser) Includes draft documents from the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the Hague Conference on Private International Law, the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), and the Organization of American States Conferences on Private International Law (CIDIPs). Hypertext links are also placed to documents contained in web sites outside the Department of State.
