Setting Up Your Laptop for Wireless Access to the Internet The following instructions are from the Information Commons Wireless Installation Documentation webpage. A hexadecimal version of the WEP key is available for those who need it. Endpoint Security Policy system (ESP) In order to prevent widespread compromise incidents, such as viruses, worms and other exploits, your computer must have the latest security updates, as well as antivirus software. Before your computer is allowed to access the Campus Wireless Network, it must pass ESP, which checks your computer to see if it is updated and the antivirus software is working. This is a one-time test. Once you have passed, you do not need to run the ESP check again until the next time Computing and Networking Services decides that another check is necessary. In the past, this has usually happened in September and January (i.e. the beginning of each semester). Appropriate Use of Information and Communication Technology Access to the Campus Wireless Network is subject to the University's Appropriate Use of Information and Communication Technology policy. In particular, please note that "...downloading and/or distribution of music or video files, for which license fees and distribution rights have not been paid or agreed upon, constitutes an infringement of Copyright, Trademark and Intellectual property rights..." and is considered a violation of the policy. Users have been blocked from accessing the Campus Wireless Network for copyright violations. Quota Please be aware that there is a 1 Gigabyte/week quota on the Campus Wireless Network. If you exceed the quota, you will not have wireless access for the rest of the week. In order to avoid going over the quota, you may wish to limit your use of streaming audio (e.g. online radio) and video (e.g. YouTube) while on the Campus Wireless Network.
